Top 5 Disney Themed Costumes for Family Dress-Up Play

Some of our favorite family photos did not happen on Halloween. They happened on a rainy Saturday when somebody put on a cape, somebody else grabbed a headpiece, and the living room turned into a galaxy far, far away. Disney owns a lot of galaxies these days, which is great news for families who want to match. Here are the five Disney-owned themes we carry with officially licensed costumes for the most ages, from babies to grown-ups and even the dog.

Toddler Star Wars The Mandalorian Grogu costume with green robe and fabric headpiece

1. Star Wars: Grogu and the Mandalorian

This is the easiest family theme in our store because the sizes go all the way down. Babies get the Baby Grogu costume (6-12 months), toddlers get the Toddler Grogu with a soft polyester robe and fabric character headpiece (3T-4T), and big kids can be the bounty hunter himself in the Kids Value Mandalorian, which includes a jumpsuit, cape, and molded mask. It is hand wash cold, which matters when playtime involves juice.

The dog can join too with the Grogu dog costume, a walking body suit with an eared headpiece. Browse all of our Star Wars licensed costumes for Boba Fett, Darth Vader, Ahsoka, and Princess Leia options for teens and adults.

2. Marvel: a whole family of heroes

Marvel is the second-biggest Disney family in our catalog, and it splits nicely between siblings. One kid can be Spider-Man in the Kids Value Spider-Man (jumpsuit plus fabric mask, sizes 8-10), a toddler can go as Captain America or Black Panther, and parents can pick from adult Spider-Man, Deadpool, and Scarlet Witch costumes. Half masks and gloves for Captain America and Black Panther start under $12 at time of writing, which is a nice way to let a shy kid participate without a full suit.

3. Toy Story: Buzz Lightyear for the little space rangers

Toy Story is a dress-up-play classic because it is about toys coming to life, which is exactly what a four-year-old thinks is happening anyway. Our Deluxe Buzz Lightyear costume (sizes 7-8) includes a bodysuit with attached chest piece, hood, and shin guards, and there are toddler Buzz sizes as well. Pair Buzz with a green Toy Story alien jumpsuit for a younger sibling and you have a two-kid theme done.

4. Disney Princess: Cinderella and Tiana

Every princess fan has a favorite, and ours are the two we keep in stock most reliably. The Classic Sparkle Cinderella is a blue satin dress with sheer sleeves, an overlay, and a character cameo (girls' medium, size 7-8), and it is one of the most affordable licensed dresses we sell at $29.99 at time of writing. The Tiana costume is a pale green and yellow sleeveless gown for size 4-6. Grown-ups who want to join the royal court can browse our princess costumes and accessories.

5. The Nightmare Before Christmas: Jack and Sally

This one works for Halloween and Christmas, which is exactly why families love it. We carry Sally in toddler, girls', women's, and plus sizes, Jack Skellington for toddlers, and Oogie Boogie for the kid who wants to be the villain. Fair warning from the product pages: shoes, wigs, and face makeup are not included with the Sally dresses, so plan a little face-paint time. Start with the Nightmare Before Christmas collection.

Tips for Disney dress-up that lasts past Halloween

  • Buy for play, not just for one night. Costumes that are hand washable (check the product page) survive months of afternoons on the floor.
  • Mix full costumes with accessories. One kid in a full suit and one in a mask and gloves still reads as a matching set.
  • Keep a dress-up bin by the TV. If it is easy to reach, it gets used.
  • Take the photo before the snacks. You know why.

All five of these themes live in our Disney licensed costumes collection, so you can check sizes for the whole family in one place. Prices noted are accurate at time of writing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these costumes officially licensed Disney products?

Yes. Every costume in our Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, and Nightmare Before Christmas collections is officially licensed, and the product pages show the copyright notice for each character.

Which Disney theme has the most sizes for a whole family?

Star Wars, specifically Grogu and the Mandalorian. We stock baby, toddler, kids, adult, and dog costumes in that theme, so everyone from a six-month-old to the family pet can match.

Can I wash Disney costumes after dress-up play?

Many can be hand washed in cold water, and the product page will say so when that applies. If a product page does not list care instructions, spot clean and air dry to be safe.

Do the princess and Sally dresses come with shoes or wigs?

No. Shoes, wigs, and makeup are not included with the Cinderella, Tiana, or Sally dresses, so you will want to add those separately.
