Santa Suit Sizing Guide: Jacket Sizes 40–48 to 64–70, Plus Sizes, and Kids' Santa Suits
Every December we get the same phone call from a first-time Santa: "It's here, it's gorgeous, and I can't get the jacket zipped." Santa suits are not sized like T-shirts, and once a costume is opened it can't come back to us, so a few minutes with a measuring tape saves real money. Here's how our Santa suits are actually sized, from the one-size velour classic up to jacket size 64-70, plus what to know for kids and babies. Prices are current at time of writing.
How Santa Suits Are Sized (It's the Jacket Number)
Most of our adult suits are listed by jacket size, the same number you'd find on a men's suit or sport coat. It's based on chest measurement in inches, so a "Large 42-48" suit is cut for a chest between 42 and 48 inches. Where a suit says XL, XXL, or XXXL, those letters are shorthand for a specific range printed on the product page. Ignore the letter and read the numbers.
One-Size Suits: "Adults Size 40-48"
Our two starter suits are one-size. The Men's Complete Velour Santa Suit ($48.99) is listed as one size fits most, adults size 40-48: a pullover jacket with back closure and belt loops, pants with side pockets, white fur trim, black belt and boot tops, white gloves, a beard, and a hat with attached hair. The Adult Economy Santa Suit ($73.99) is labeled Adult Large, size 40-48, and includes a red pullover jacket, pants, hat, belt, boot tops, gloves, and beard.
If your jacket size falls inside 40-48, either is a straightforward buy. At 48 or above, keep reading: a pullover jacket has less give than a zipper coat, and there's no larger size in these two lines.
Sized Suits: Large 42-48 Through XXXL 64-70
Our step-up suits are sold one size per listing, which is why you'll see "LG," "XL," "XXL," and "XXXL" in the names. Two lines share the same four ranges:
- Large: jacket size 42-48
- XL: jacket size 50-56
- XXL: jacket size 58-62
- XXXL: jacket size 64-70
The Plush Rental Quality Santa Suit is the workhorse: zipper coat with belt loops, pants with side pockets, hat with a large pom-pom, bound belt with gilt buckle, deluxe vinyl boot tops with white plush cuffs, and white knit gloves. The XXL (58-62) is $172.99 and the XXXL (64-70) is $184.99.
The Men's Burgundy Velvet Santa Suit is the photo-day suit: burgundy velvet with long-hair white plush trim, a partially satin-lined zipper coat with extended sleeve cuffs, Naugahyde belt and boot tops, and white nylon gloves. It's sold as separate Large ($355.99), XL ($379.99), XXL ($399.99), and XXXL ($429.99) listings, all in the Santa suits collection. Neither line includes a beard or wig, so budget for one from Santa beards and wigs.
Notice the gaps between ranges (48 to 50, 56 to 58). If you measure a 49 or a 57, go up. A Santa coat is meant to look generous.
Plus-Size Picks
Three suits are built for the 50-and-up crowd without choosing between four listings. The Men's Plus Size Premium Plush Red Santa Suit ($229.99) is Adult XL, size 50-54: Regency plush trimmed with faux rabbit fur, zipper-front jacket, pants with side pockets, hat, belt, boot tops, and white gloves. The Men's Plus Size Rich Velour Santa Suit ($167.99) is also Adult XL, size 50-54, and its page notes it ships separately from other items. The Velveteen Santa Suit, Men's 58-62 ($195.99) is burgundy velveteen with long-hair plush trim; wig and beard are sold separately. Above 62, the XXXL Rental Quality and Burgundy Velvet suits (64-70) are the answer.
Measuring at Home in Three Minutes
You need three numbers. Chest: tape around the fullest part, under the arms, level and snug but not tight (or read the tag in a suit jacket you already own). Waist: where you'll actually wear the Santa belt. Inseam: crotch seam to just over the boot top. Compare the chest number to the jacket range on the product page, and if you'll wear a belly pad, measure with it on. We don't publish measurements beyond what the manufacturer lists, so if you're between ranges, ask customer service before you order rather than after.
Kids' and Baby Santa Suits
Little Santas are sized by age. The Kids Plush Santa Suit ($108.99) comes in Medium (6-8), XL (10-12), and XXL (14-16), each with a pullover plush coat, pants, hat, black belt, boot tops, and a white beard and mustache set. The Boy's Red Velvet Santa Suit in our kids' Christmas collection is the dressier option, with a zipper velvet coat, elastic-waist pants, belt, hat, and boot tops (beard sold separately).
For the youngest helpers, the Baby Santa Suit, 6-12 Months ($78.99) is a lined, zippered jumpsuit with leg snaps, a hood with faux fur hair and a detached beard, and skid-resistant booties; it's also made in 12-18 months.
