10 Most Popular Family Costumes for Halloween
Halloween is the one night a year the whole family gets to be on the same team. Coordinated costumes make the photos better, the trick-or-treating funnier and the memories stickier. We looked at what families actually order together from our shop each fall and put the ten most popular themes in one place, with an in-stock pick for each age (prices at time of writing). Sizes vary by item, so check the product page before you add to cart. If nothing here fits, browse all of our costumes or jump straight to kids' costumes.

1. Superhero squad
Still the most popular family theme we ship, because everyone from the newborn to grandpa can find a hero. Start the baby in a Baby Marvel Spider-Man Costume ($51.99, 6-12 months), put the kids in Kids Value Spider-Man ($29.99, 8-10) or Kids Value Captain America ($27.99, 4-7), and give a grown-up the Adult Qualux Marvel Deadpool ($101.99). The dog? A Captain America Dog Costume ($31.99, 25-40 lbs). See everything in superhero costumes.
2. A galaxy far, far away
Star Wars is the theme with the best baby option in the whole store: the Baby Grogu Costume ($51.99). Big brother or sister takes the Kids Value Mandalorian ($33.99, 8-10), a parent goes Darth Vader ($101.99) or Princess Leia ($77.99), and the dog becomes an Ewok ($38.99). Browse all Star Wars costumes.
3. Minecraft, in real life
If your house has a Minecraft kid, you already know this is the theme. The Kids Classic Minecraft Steve Pop-Out Costume ($69.99, 7-8) is the anchor, the Inflatable Enderman ($95.99) is the showstopper, and parents can join in with a Creeper block headpiece ($26.99) over regular clothes. Everything blocky lives in our Minecraft collection.
4. The food truck
Food costumes are the funniest group theme and the easiest to mix. Try a Toddler Banana ($26.99), a Kids Hot Dog ($34.99), a Kids Pizza Slice ($42.99) and an Adult Zombie Hot Dog ($78.99) for the parent who wants a little Halloween in their Halloween. The dog gets a Hot Dog Dog Costume ($30.99). More in food and beverage costumes.
5. Under the sea
Sharks are a perennial favorite. The Toddler Sand Shark ($40.99, 3T-4T) is a soft polyfoam tunic, the Women's Shark Costume ($48.99) is a one-piece gray dress with a hood, and a Baby Hammerhead Shark ($46.99) completes the school. Add an Adult Lobster Headband ($17.99) and a Squid Headpiece ($30.99) for the grown-ups who'd rather not commit to a full costume.
6. Halloween Town
The Nightmare Before Christmas gives you a ready-made family: the Girl's Sally Costume ($44.99, Small), the Toddler Jack Skellington ($47.99, 2T), a Toddler Oogie Boogie ($43.99, 4-6) and a grown-up Women's Classic Sally ($63.99, XXL). See the whole Nightmare Before Christmas collection.
7. Squishmallows
A newer theme that took off fast with the under-10 crowd. The Kids Squishmallows Emily Bat and Holly Owl costumes ($81.99 each) are soft and huggable, and matching Squishmallows treat pails ($24.99) let the rest of the family carry the theme without wearing it. Browse Squishmallows costumes.
8. The barnyard
Farm animals are perfect for families with toddlers because the costumes are soft and the headpieces are forgiving. The Toddler Big Eyed Cow ($42.99) comes with a headpiece with nose, ears, horns and big eyes. Parents grab an Adult Chicken Headband ($17.99) or a Pig in a Blanket Costume Kit ($30.99). More critters in animal costumes.
9. Christmas in October
This one surprises people, but it's real: families who play Santa every December often debut the suit on Halloween. A Men's Complete Velour Santa Suit ($48.99) for dad, a Kringle's Kompanion ($36.99) for mom, a Kids Satin Jingle Elf ($44.99, 4-8) for the kids and a Santa Dog Costume ($17.99). Then you get to wear it all again in eight weeks. Browse Christmas costumes and Santa suits.
10. Storybook mash-up
When nobody can agree, let each person pick a character from a different story and call it a library. A Girl's Tiana Costume ($54.99, Small), an Adult Frog Prince ($103.99), a Women's Evil Queen ($47.99) and a kid in a Tree Frog Costume ($50.99) is a perfectly good family. A few tips before you order
Pick the world first and the characters second, so the picky ones still get a say. Order by early October: from September through December our processing runs 24 to 72 hours and ground shipping takes 3 to 5 business days after it ships. Standard shipping is free over $99, which a family of four will clear easily. And keep the packaging until everyone has tried their costume on, since returns need to be requested within 30 days and costumes are only returnable in unopened, unblemished original packaging.
Frequently asked questions
How do we pick a family costume theme everyone agrees on?
Let the youngest kid who has an opinion pick the world (superheroes, Star Wars, food), then let everyone else pick their own character inside it. A Spider-Man toddler, a Deadpool dad and a Captain America dog are still one theme.
Can we include the baby and the dog?
Yes. Several of our themes have pieces for both. For example, we carry Baby Marvel Spider-Man and Captain America costumes from 0-6 months up and Captain America and Grogu dog costumes sized by weight. Check the size line on each product page.
What if our kids are very different sizes?
Most of our licensed kids' costumes come in Small (4-7), Medium (8-10) and Large (12-14), with separate toddler 3T-4T and baby sizes. Each size is its own product page, so search for the character and pick the size that matches.
When should we order family costumes?
Early October at the latest. During September through December our processing time is 24 to 72 hours, ground shipping takes 3 to 5 business days after it ships, and popular sizes sell out. Standard shipping is free on orders over $99.
